performance while requiring a considerably less LO power than is required of Class III diode ring mixers having comparable performance [6]. However, the topology has provided little improvement in the NF of earlier active mixer topologies. In the lossless feedback active mixer, an input IF (or RF) signal having amplitude A and frequency ω S is applied differentially to the input terminals of a pair of lossless feedback transformers T 3 and T 4 , which results in a pair of differential input currents

High dynamic range double-balanced active mixers using lossless feedback

The second term in the denominator of (5) represents the nonlinear emitter resistance of the amplifying transistors Q 3 and Q 6 , which is the primary source of IMD in the doubleAbstract A further development in the application of negative feedback techniques to active double-balanced mixers is described, in which the concept of single-transformer lossless feedback is employed to improve both t...

Frequency Translation Loops for RF Filtering Theory and Design

Modern wireless transceivers are required to operate over a wide range of frequencies in order to support the multitude of currently available wireless standards. Wideband operation also enables future systems that aim for better utilization of the available spectrum through dynamic allocation. As such, co-existence problems like harmonic mixing and phase noise become a main concern. In particu...

GAAS Conference P411-537

Active mixers operating at 23 GHz are designed and fabricated in SiGe technology. An integrated diode linearizer is used to improve the linearity of the mixer. Measurement and simulation show excellent agreement. Typically, 10 dB double-sideband noise figure, 10 dBm IIP3 and 2 dB conversion gain are measured, featuring low noise and high linearity in a same design.

Linearization Techniques for Mixers

In the modern high-performance transceivers, mixers (both upand down-converters) are required to have large dynamic range in order to meet the system specifications. The lower end of the dynamic range is indicated by the noise floor which tells how small a signal may be processed while the high end is determined by the non-linearity which causes distortion, compression and saturation of the sig...

T 3 Mixer Primer A Tutorial on High Linearity / High IP 3 RF & Microwave Mixers

Intermodulation distortion (IMD) suppression is a critical issue in modern military and commercial RF/microwave systems. Pressed by the demands imposed by distortion-sensitive digital modulation formats, modern systems routinely specify linearity requirements that are impossible to attain using conventional approaches. To meet these new challenges, Marki Microwave has introduced the Two-Tone-Te...
